Sorry for sidetracking the technical babble.. but I must vent

I love people, they are some of the dumbest animals. It makes them entertaining. People in Ohio (and yes, I was born, raised and still live here) are on their way to being the stupidest…

Good for someone who said ‘There aught a be a law’ and then got a lot of people together and wrote one. Good for them for getting the requirements fulfilled so it was on the ballet. But the heck with the people for voting… did anyone read the law?? The full law can be viewed at http://www.sos.state.oh.us/SOS/ElectionsVoter/results2006.aspx?Section=1874)

Where to start…

A) 3794.07 (B) It does not fine the violator, it fines the establishment (They will just pay the fine and pass along a ’smoking tax’ to their customers.)

B) 3794.07 (D) Establish a system for receiving reports of violations of the provisions of this chapter from any member of the public, including, but not limited to, by mail and one or more e-mail addresses and toll free telephone numbers exclusively for such purpose. A person shall not be required to disclose his or her identity in order to report a violation; (This along is grounds for an appeal because Americans have the right to face our accuser.)

C) 3794.09 (B) Investigations of complaints are not even handled by the Police, nor are fines administered by a Law Enforcement Officer. It is the Health Department (Who does and should have the ability to close food establishments). This is just wrong…

D) 3794.09 (C) Any proprietor or individual against whom a finding of a violation is made under this chapter may appeal the finding to the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas. (Another grounds for appeal as the violation may not have happen in Franklin County)

All in all, this should not have went through, though it doesn’t appear to ban smoking on the public streets or in my own front yard…. (Which is good I guess.) For what it is worth, I am not even a smoker. But stupid people should not write stupid laws, no matter how good the intent was behind the law…

… Folks, please please please run Windows Update at least once a month.  Or better yet, turn on automatic updates for your PC’s.  (Don’t do it for your servers though)

While not a developer, I do like to make my job easier.  Part of that means getting a script to work… like I did for www.adsi4nt.com.  Check it out if you are looking for IIS or ADSI scripts.

There be a lot of stuff in here… but in due time.

Be it 5.5 days or the cool things to come with 2007.
